On my latest Win mod 71, I ordered a Williams peep sitht for the win 71 and the hole spacing is wrong, with the Williams receiver sight I purchased and marked for M-71... MY hole spacing is .0611,,,What is the correct hole spacing for a long tang mod.71 peep on the upperleft side of receiver?? an under light Ican see an outline of a previous peep sight??? Maybe a Marble or Lyman, but cant find specs for hole spacing on the various peeps..

I wouldn't care for grip tang safety with a 348 Win as under the right condition the recoil could cause an eye injury!!

Hopeing one of our illustrious gunsmiths can make a suggestion or owns a 71 he can measure.

Ray.

My short tang low number 71, which was reblued, so I can not tell if it is factory tapped, has a hole spacing of .406"

AND, I have a new in the box Lyman 66A, steel version that has the same matching .406" hole spacing

I can see a thin outline under lights of the receiver sight base. I suppose in such an early gun, who knows what sort of contrapsion it had on it, or who D&Ted it back in the day.
