Strawboss, I don't do this very often and only under duress. I have founds something that works for me in most cases and I am into experimenting.

I have recently stripped both a Browning A-Bolt and a Remington using a product called Citri Strip. It is Orange and comes in a small jug. I bought it at walmart. Slop a good coat on the stock, wrap the stock in aluminum foil and wait about 30 minutes. I don't know what the aluminum foil accomplishes but I read that tip on another board and it works well. Use a stiff nylon brush and mineral spirits to scrub the stock and the finish comes right off. It is by far the most effective stripper I've ever used and it smells like oranges. If the stock has cutt checkering, Tape the checkering off with masking tape befor you start. Good Shooting, Weagle

To remove at least 98% of the finish on any rifle quickly and easily, just loan it to your brother-in-law for a "two day deer hunt".
