You'll be glad to hear your brain got this one right. J bore is .318 & S bore is .323.

Yes the larger bore JS 8x57 cartridge was introduced in 1905 using a 154gr Spitzer bullet with MV of 2880 fps. The earlier .318" bore J cartridge used a round nose 226gr bullet with MV of 2093fps.
