Had one of these come into the shop today for excess H.S. Family heirloom, you know the drill right. Anyway is there a common repair for this? Remember the barrel is the action, or the action is the barrel! There is a locking lug with no noticable wear.

Frank Dehaas mentioned curing headspace problems on Winchester 43's (he said they were prone to "stretching") by making a washer that fit between the bolt head and bolt body to tighten the headspace.

On that note:

-make a shim/washer for, or build up the surface of, the righthand end of part #22, and then adjust it to the proper headspace by using a reamer, or cutting back what was added until a go gauge works.

Or a combination of same, thereabouts.

Just about all of you are familiar with me around here, I offer this as someone who, on a good day, only observes. Wink

I just took it apart and studied the bolt. I kinda was thinking the same thing. I will measure how far out the h.s. is to give me something to shoot for. The i.d. of the shim would have to be .500. It may be possible to get some shim washers in that spec.
Thanks for the reply.
