A friend of mine recently came across a bizarre treasure-trove: an elderly widow was cleaning out her storage room and gave him 6 or 7 boxes of gun parts, mostly for '03 Springfields, still in arsenal wrap or cosmoline. It seems her husband thought that things were going to hell back in the early 60's and started his own little DCM stockpile. Every single piece needed to assemble several '03 Springfields is there, down to the individual pins and springs, with the exception of receivers (is that the correct term for a totally stripped action?) Obviously he would like to assemble a couple of them, and I was wondering if anyone knows a source for '03 receivers. Brian

the dcm had some, don't know now, same for sarco... do NOT use national ordinance receviers, those are not 100% perfect, nothing fits quite right.. can be made into nice actions, but not good enough for a full mil jeffe

The only place I can think of is SARCO, Inc. They advertise in Shotgun News, www.sarcoinc.com , phone number 908-647-3800. Not sure if they have any now, but they did in the past. Don

Also be careful of a lot of "drill rifles" out there right now that are being sold as actions and receivers. They had the barrel spotwelded to the receiver and also the cutoff lever welded. Often this was done with stainless welding rod and you can see the evidence of it on actions and receivers that someone has tried to pretty up and sell them from these rifles.
