Kimber barrel removal

I have a Kimber of Oregon .22RF in the shop & I need to pull the barrel. I have made adapters for my action wrench to fit the receiver and have tried to unscrew the barrel without success. Used a 3' extension on the action wrench and applied so much pressure I was afraid I'd damage the receiver. Any tips on barrel removal will be appreciated.

BTW & if it matters, the rifle is a sporter marked "Custom Match". It has a nice checkered English walnut stock and appears to be an overall quality firearm. I have also removed barrels from M82 Kimber without incident.

Thanks,

Roger

If its threaded...whack it, don't pull it. The jar will loosen it much better than pressure. A relief cut may be called for.

Are the 82 CF threaded as well. I have a hornet that needs the barrel pulled.

Just a thought....

Original Kimber Of Oregon Custom Match 22LR rifles are pretty rare/expensive. Any chance to leave as is?

Roger, some of those also had a pin through the receiver to hold them in place. Give me a few hours to do some research and call me tomorrow. A Custom Match just sold at auction last year for $21.9K. This is an expensive model.

Rumor has it....If you had kept the ones Greg had you "improve" they would be fetching that too....from the same fools.

For all to know...Duane was "highly responsible" for the shape of the Kimber gunstock produced by Kimber Industries...my first intro to gunstock making.

KDA55,

I have 3 model 82 based on the Hornet cartridge. One was purchased as a action only. I later found a 17 K Hornet barrel for it. They have threaded receivers and barrels just like a normal Model 70 PF or similar gun. They do have relief cuts at 3 and 9 o clock on the barrel for the twin extractors on the model 82 CF bolt.

The deHass book has a lot of information on the Model 82 Hornet.

Please tell me this is a joke and you’re really not pulling a barrel off of a Custom Match!?!?! If you didn’t know already that is pretty much the holy grail of Kimber 82’s.

Interesting that the 17K Hornet was mentioned.

Here is a pic of my Kimber Of Oregon Super America 17 Kimber Hornet R2.

The cartridge was Kimber's attempt at "standardizing" the 17AH chambering.
