Good news from the Shot Show. Dick Davis from McMillan, Clem Boyd from Boyds, Bell & Carlson, HS Precision, Tiger International, Acrabond Laminates are, or have committed to, tool up for the M1999. Tiger is ready to go now.
Stocks will be ready within 4-6 weeks for the Long Action from most of the above and the Short Action not long afterward.
Making a stock for the Model 1999 should be a piece of cake using those existing stock patterns and tools. However, with the PH version if it's too big for the McMillan Express pattern then a new mold will have to be tooled up and Dick Davis told me a while back that it is unlikely that they would invest into a new mold for any big bore stocks. I hope that I am wrong about this, as I really like the McMillan Express stock for a big bore. Thanks.

How different is the 1999 in terms of bedding from the classic model 70? In other words, how much work is involved with fitting one to a Model 70 stock? Where would the differences lie between the two? From what I have read, I understand the tang is a bit different, is this the main difference? If that is all, i would think fitting a 1999 to a fiberglass stock designed for the current model 70 would not be abig deal.
Really good Rod. You've got me all hyped on getting my action so I can build this gun. Let us know when you get close to the order point for production as I might be able to talk Wifezilla into letting me buy a second one since they're such a great deal.

I ordered a couple of M1999 actions and Brian at MRC told me the biggest amount of material to be removed would be to inlet the bottom metal. The M1999 bottom metal is slightly larger in outline than M70 bottom metal so the inletting will have to be opened up a bit.
As boltman said, the big part of the job is the bottom metal. It is equivalent to what is shipped on the Supergrade Express rifle from Win custom shop. I.E. Williams bottom metal.
The magazine frame fits significantly deeper in the wood than the floorplate hinge on the standard M70 rifle, and a bit wider around the sheetmetal box, which typically has no frame.
Rod, So what I am getting out of this is that I can use my Pre 64 pattern stocks and a little wood removal, a pound of bondo and probably end up with a nice pattern stock for the magnum lenth action, which by the way should have had a drop box on it...

Ray: Sounds like you're on track. The drop box means custom bottom metal ($$$$). Not likely to fit in the financials given what we're selling this for.
However, if you have a chunk of metal shaped like a drop-box you'd like to see, we be interested in looking at it. We're pretty good at reverse engineering for producibility (aka making it inexpensive). Maybe we can make this an option.
