You may be able to get enough lenth by filing out the back of the box, if not then solder a piece of metal on to it and file it out to ???? whatever the action will allow.. I know you can on a Mauser but it's thicker in that area than a M-70, thus soldering the piece on it may be required in your case.. ------------------ Ray Atkinson ray@atkinsonhunting.com atkinsonhunting.com

If it turns out that it shoots best at 3.590 or 3.595" then maybe I could just file a bit off of each tip. Sounds kind of crazy I know but it may be an easier solution. Question is would it affect accuracy or performance on game. The exposed lead tip is about 0.145" long and I would only remove about 0.020" to get the overall cartridge length back to about 3.575" and thereby feed well. Or maybe I can buy the 200 grain protected point Nosler Partition. I know that they make one that is loaded in some of Federal ammo. Rufous.

Roufus, Can't you just seat them in another .020" ? What is the difference in group size when at that length? [This message has been edited by Customstox (edited 04-23-2002).]

Shoulda bought a Rem 700...3.70" mag box in ALL long action calibers.Seriously thought, the other guys are right, just seat a bit shorter and try it. Question of the day: Why did Winchester design the 300 Win Mag "to fit a standard 30-06 length action" when thier own flagship Model 70 was produced with a 3.6" box in 300 and 375 H&H? Never could understand that one.

Yeah Rofous, filing th tip off the end of your bullets will cause much more accuracy problems than just seating .02 deeper. The problem is no matter how hard you try you can not file the bullet even and you will cause it to spin away from it's own axis which leads to accuracy and expansion problems.

Take a chisel and knock the spacer out of the magazine box, it is just spot welded in. You may need a full length follower and you will have to set the bolt stop back. I have done this on two Model 70s because I wanted to set the bullets out.

you can always order another box chop both appropriately and weld to gether. then you will need williams one piece bottom metal to get rid of middle guard screw and machine rear of magazine cutout to the rear to accomadate the new box. i have done a few and it works
