Should I leave it a 9.3x57?
I'm in the proscess of buying a Husqvarna 9.3x57 it needs to be refinished. Should I leave it as is or convert to 9.3x62. It is built on a 98 action. At equal pressure the smaller case will only give up around 100fps.

I had a Husky M146 rechambered to 9.3x62 because I already had one rifle in that caliber. It works fine, brass is easily available.
The biggest change I had to make was trimming the rear sight by 0.05" to get it zeroed. Big Grin

And more brass is easy to make from 8x57 or even 7x57. IMO the main reason for any rechamberng would be to have better factory ammo availability if you don't handload.

Factory 9.3x57 brass is kinda thin in the web due to the low pressure spec. So you're limited in that regard to try and ramp it up in pressure. The thicker 8x57 brass takes higher pressure but has lesser internal volume so its a bit of a Catch 22 to try to get any substantial increase in velocity from a 9.3x57.

That said, the 9.3x57 is a righteous killer just the way it was designed. You can extend your point-blank range slightly with the 9.3x62 but the real step up in capability is the 9.3x64.

Magazine box length permits seating the 57mm-case bullet out further for increased usable powder capacity. The 62mm case requires deep bullet seating for any heavy bullets, reducing the useful capacity. Almost a wash IMO.

These guns are so cheap, its a shame to not have one in each caliber. OTOH, everyone that reams a 9.3x57 to 9.3x62 just makes my x57 worth a little bit more; so go right ahead.

Can't beat that offer. Smiler However UPS made my decision for me. At least for now. They delivered my new Hornady 380PDK dies today. Toomany Tools got it blued for me a couple weeks ago. So I've decided to leave the 9.3 as a 57. Since my 380PDK is a larger case than the 9.3x62 I'll have it surrounded.

Here's one.

However, I've said it before, make sure the chamber will clean up before just sticking a reamer in. The chambers on these 9.3x57 vary greatly and I've seen some that were too big to clean up with a 9.3x62 reamer.

If the chamber is bigger, neck size it and you almost have a 9.3x62 anyway.
