Ok I would like to learn a little about what I am planning to add ti my rifle/s.

An aftermarket trigger in this case, and I have some questions.

IF "bolt release" is not specified, does it mean that the blt will be free to slip out of the reciever if it is pulled too far?

The Jewel triggers I have seen advertised don't specify what make of rifle they are intended for with the exceptions Winchester mod 70 and AR15.
Do I assume thay are intended for Remingtons(just because everything else is) or can this mean they can be put onto virtually any action?

Can a trigger intended for a right handed action have the safety on the left hand side? Or is this a more complicated gunsmithing task?

What do I need to know before I decide on an aftermarket trigger? One is for a target rifle, the other a hunting rifle.

I like my trigger to be as light as possible, most likely a lot lighter than most people would use for hunting.

Not all rifles have their bolt release as part of the trigger mechanism: Mausers, M70, Sakos spring to mind. Actions with trigger based bolt stops include Rem M700 and quite a few European actions, but I'm sure there may be others.

Savages of the 110 series and following have the bolt stop tied to the trigger. You have to hold the trigger back while pressing down the bolt stop button to withdraw the bolt.

Hmmm Express, you did not get a bunch of hits on this one, so I'll contribute whatever I feel I can. Maybe that will goad somebody else into replying as well.

It is kind'a hard to get information about Jewell triggers, they don't seem to have a website. So the best I have come up with is what my Sinclair catalog tells me. There are indeed two Jewells (AJ03 and AJ04) that fit Remington M700 actions - at least the AJ03 is also supposed to fit the Stolle, Shilen, Hart, Wichita, Farley, Nesika Bay - i.e. all the standard BR actions. On top of that, as you state there is a Jewell available for the M70 and the AR15. I'm am unaware of any other actions that the Jewell is made for. We want one of the gunsmiths in here to tell us whether a trigger for action A can be made to fit action B.

The Jewells can be had with (I believe) 3 sets of springs, that determine your range of trigger pull adjustment. I believe the lowest spring allows adjustments from 2oz-8oz, not sure what the exact mumbers are for the other springs. The Jewell on my M700 is set to 23-24oz.

You can get Timeny triggers for quite a few other rifles, and Timney has a website: Timney. Most Timneys can be adjusted down to around 1.5lbs (24 oz).

Rifle Basix makes triggers for M700 & Savage.

Shilen makes a trigger for the Rem M700. This comes in both a target and a "hunting" version - target being something like a 2oz pull. Sinclair sells Jewell, Timney, Rifle Basix and Shilen triggers. Try Sinclair International

Canjar makes aftermarket triggers for a bunch of actions, but it is almost impossible even to get in touch with Canjar. You can try your luck if you feel like it. Their phone number is listed in here somewhere - do a search on Canjar.

1) which action do you have?

2) what trigger makes are available to you?

3) how do you intend to get hold of them (US export restrictions?)

4) what are your options in terms of trigger pull weights?

5) are you going to install them or have a smith do it?

Basic starter questions I can think of off-hand.

P.S. Forgot to add, that there are European aftermarket triggers available for (mostly) M98 actions - Kepplinger from Austria springs to mind. A lot of these will be set triggers. Frankonia sells a single set trigger for the M98 - could be the Kepplinger, though?? Frankonia also sells Timneys - if you can't get them in Italy.
