i have a winchester 70 in 308 winchester. I have been shooting hornady 168 A-Max bullets seated pretty far out but still under the overall length of the magazine. I am having feeding problems. When the gun is single loaded in the magazine or even double loaded, it feeds fine. The problem occurs when the magazine gets 3 or more in it, then the bolt wont slide the cartridge into the chamber. Have to kind of slide the bolt back and bump it in. This isn't correct operation.
Anybody have this problem before? Know what is causing this? How do i fix the problem?

What does that mean? Does the rear of the case dip below the bolt to where the bolt over rides the case, Does the cartridge not come up at all? Or in a nose down position?
Have you tried seating the bullet deeper into the case to see how that feeds? Even though the OAL is just under the length of the magazine, it can still bind.
Provided this only happens with the "Hornady 168 A-Max bullets" seated at this particular depth, I would seat the bullet in a bit further and recheck the feeding.
Folks seat their bullets out so as to get closer to the lands, which "can" improve accuracy but can also create feeding problems. One way to correct this would be to have the barrel set back enough to shorten the throat to the point where you can reach the lands and still house and feed the rounds.
