How much of a job would it be to rebarrel a savage 99, say in 300 savage or 308 to a 358 Winchester?

There may be an action length difference between 300 Savage guns and 308's. I have read that the spool is another problem when changing calibers.

There is a Savage collectors section at www.24hourcampfire.com

Call Savage on the phone. Maybe someone there will suggest a way.

You have to start with a .308, the .300 mechanism and magazine are too short. Also, a .308 can be rebored to .358, a little cheaper than rebarreling as you keep the original blue job and sights, etc.

I called Savage to have them rebarrel My wife's .243 . The only thing they were concerned about was the serial number I guess some of the older 99's they wont touch . Long story short I had the gun work done and it really shoots . Good Luck Hope you get what your looking for .
