+1.

Over here a lot of professional "best" quality stockers still send work out for chequering.

It's easy to bugger up and almost impossible to put right if buggered up.

What about applying a patch of commercial textured/non-slip paint if the rifle isn't worth very much?

What about the lady who does the Kimber checkering? Does she do other small work?

I was quoted $150.00 to have my Beretta shotgun recheckered. I checked with several reputable smiths and they all quoted the same price and they were all located in different states. I should add that that was for the butt stock section.

"How to checker a stock" Or 99 ways to "F" up good wood. You take your pick

Really if the rifle is not worth it. give it a shot you're self you have nothing to loose.

I did one came out OK for what it is but I'd never do it on a stock worth any kind of real money

I've used Tim before. He's cheap and fast. Probably expensive and slow too Big Grin I liked the work and enjoyed talking to him on the phone.
