A friend of mine just gave me a 3006 rifle.
The stock is broke off just behind the safety,
i would like to get a new stock.
I cant find the make on it any where allthough
it has several markings witch are all the same
they kind of look like two circles one large
with one smaller inside of it with wings attached
to it,has a lever on the left side to remove the
bolt when pulled. also has a knob on the right
that looks like it may have had some type of peep sight at one time.right now it has a old weaver
scope k4 L made in el paso. claw extractor
serial 1242215. please help

It sounds like a mauser 98, does it have a cut in the left side of the action ? can you give any other markings? I have my bolt actions of the world out and I can't find any thing like you said about wings and circles.

if you can get some more info let us know.

I've seen that circles wings mark before. Think it's a proof mark. Look for a picture of a P 14 or P 17 Enfield and compare. Is the bolt dog-legged?

It also has a egale head stamped on the barrel
just in front of the action, has the letter T
stamped on the bolt and the letter E on the saftey
the only cut on the left is where the lever for
removeing the bolt is
thanks!

Sounds like a P-17.I have looked up the action in the Bolt Action rifle book and it has a lot to say about it good and bad but the bad is a very small part. Stocks for them are out there but I don't have a place to send you to geet one.

Hope this helped

You have a Redwings rifle! Just kidding, I have seen that proof on several P-17s, including the one my father owns.

The kicker to ID is the safety -- a little drumstick just behind the bolt handle, which is of course doglegged.

Bell & Carlson make stocks, last I knew. Also places like Richards Microfit, Great American Gunstock, and probably even Boyd's.

If it truly is a 1917 Enfield you will have to look at the bottom. Distinct hump on the bottom of the stock where the magazine is?
Flat or nearly so.
Two possibilities as it came from the gunsmith that "sporterized" it (I am assuming that it is "sporterized).
If not, the Springfield Sporters or Gun Parts Corp will have military stock.
In todays world finding a sporter stock will be a little harder and a lot more expensive. I would suggest you put a WTB ad in the classified section of every place on the net looking for a stock once you make sure of the make, model, configuration of your firearm.

Heck it may well even be a Remington Model 30A with your description.

Those circles are the flaming bomb,US acceptance mark,Look for " E " or " R " or " W " on the parts. You can guess the R and W .Check Headspace with the bolt disassembled. It's the rifle of Sargent York. Model 1917 .30 cal.Mine is the most accurate rifle I own !also the heaviest.
