Is the third screen necessary or is two sufficient? Chuck

I've had my 35P for about five years now. The proof channel has caught a few discrepancies now and again. Enough so that I think the third screen is useful.

On a rare occasion the 35P with three screens makes only one reading. I am not sure if it would have worked with the conventional two or not. The third screen just takes longer to set up with more stuff to carry etc. The worst part is that the wind blows the rig over. Mine came with the two factory tripods which while minimal in construction are better than one tripod. When its windy I bring two pieces of split firewood and lay one end on each tripod. If you can shoot out of your house in the winter and have the screens in the yard it's quite a nice way to pass the time and work up loads. I got my three screen 35P used. I was going to buy a CED after being so impressed after talking to Jim there but the Oehler was there so.... The CED will record to the computer. Not sure how this would work out but its interesting. Chuck, I have always used three screens on mine, I guess two screens never crossed my mind as mine came with three. Absolutly the cat's meow of cronographs!! Charlie

By all means use all three screens! It may not be necessary, but it gives you a more accurate reading. If there's a glitch, you can omit a shot or shots from your summary data. This is a fantastic chrono, but yes, I agree with Savage99, that it can catch the wind on occasion. Don Stewart NRA Benefactor Life Member

Sorry that I wasn't clear. I'm looking to pick one up and am deciding between the two. Chuck
