Marking Lapped Rings

Is there a generally “approved” way to mark scope rings that have been lapped? I can think of a number of ways to do it so that I know, but I’m interested in what others do? How I may mark them could be meaningless to someone down the road.

I use a prick punch to put light pricks on the front of the top & bottom rings halves on the sides where the screws go through. Learned that years ago from Duard Finley P.O. Ackleys buddy.

I use one of those vibrating scribes and mark "R" and "F" on the right sides of the two ring halves. If you use the pin prick method, you have to remember what that method is. Doug is a better man than I am, far better.
