I purchased a mark v in 1967 and that rifle was made in West Germany,it is marked as such. IIRC the first Weatherby rifles were FN mausers. Then Weatherby manufactured the V type in South Gate Cal.,after that the rifles were produced by Sauer in Germany. I don't remember exactly when the rifles were made in Japan but I think it started in the early 80's. Some of this could be wrong. As a side note I still have the rifle in 300 WM and it was the 1st centerfire I ever purchased. At 12 years old it was quite a blast to shoot and at 400 bucks my paper route money was well spent.

After some looking the FN rifle was made in South Gate from the 50's up to the early 60's.
The Mark V was made in W.Germany originally and then Japan.

I found a article with some history.
