How do you smooth a CZ550 action?
I have a CZ550 in 375, and I see many references to the fact that the action needs some work to slick it up a bit.

Could I do this myself, and if so how, or should this be given to a good gunsmith?

I load up the bolt surfaces with Outer's Gunslick then operate the bolt about a million times. There's a lot of graphite in it so it will remove the high spots eventually. If you aren't that patient a little Jewlers Rouge will work, too.

Slamfire,

Do you just wash the rifle with water once completed to get rid of the grinding compound, or are there other considerations also?

Use some brakeclean to get rid of the rouge when you're done. This will be better than water.

Fellas,
I was thinking of doing the same thing with my M70, using some jewlers paste or light compound. My question is will it make the action significantly smoother, or is it just something to do when you're bored?

+1

Valve grinding compound is too course!
You can get 600 or 800 grit compound
from Brownells or Midway.
