I read about reboring barrels but never see the service advertised. I'm thinking I'd like to change one of my 06's to a 338-06. Am I wasting money to chase down someone to rebore the barrel?

B,

You may be money ahead by installing a new barrel. I've seen both good results and bad from reboring and if I am going to be throwing dice, let it be in some warm place like Las Vegas...

If the existing barrel is special, ie octagon, quarter rib or other exspensive items to copy, then re-boring is an economical choice. If the barrel is just a std tube, then you are dollars and years ahead putting a quality new barrel on and having it chambered by a good gunsmith. Also, if you're existing -06 chamber is sloppy, the new chamber will be sloppy as well.

I would re barrel, it takes a long time to get your gun back when sent to be re bored and the cost isn't much different...Only certain valuble guns should be re bored.
