Does anyone have a clue on the oiler. Do you think it has cork gaskets at one time. 3/4" diameter 6" long One cap end has a rubberish flush insert. The other has a pin dipper. Oh yea, the rosewood cleaning kit has no makers mark.

Appears to be an oiler for an M1917 Enfield.

It is a nickel plated oiler for a 1903 Springfield, also used on the later mil rifles. One end has the oiler and the other end contains the pull through cleaning thong. It does not belong in that wooden box.

I have a similar oiler. Except that one end is yellow and appears to be plastic or nylon. My father brought it home from WWII. He was a BAR man in his squad in the 19th Armored Infantry Battalion. The tube fit inside the butt of an M1 or a BAR. He said that it was one of his souvenirs from his 'all-expenses paid walking tour of France and Germany.' Yes... oil in one end. pull through cord in the other end. Sort of a early version of the Bore-SNake. Not sure how common these are.

They changed to plastic during WW2, like many items, to save strategic materials like brass and save money. They are not rare. Not like a bore snake; the cord is just to pull the patch loop through the bore. That system dates to WW1. The Germans used chains to do the same thing and theirs came in a steel flip top tobacco can.
