I have a JC Higgins FN 98 LH safety it has been fitted by a gunsmith. It is hard to engage requires effort. Too much in my opiinion are they all that way? The gunsmith said he could make it easier to use but it would not be as safe? kk alaska

I’d look for another smith...assuming that what you are expecting isn’t too easy. You obviously want (need) to have some amount of effort required to flip the safety but you also shouldn’t need a pair of pliers to do it.

Go to the auto parts store and buy a tube of copper based anti seize lube. you'll need to disassemble the bolt and put just a little between the safety and the cocking piece. You'll be amazed how well it works after this has been done. I got it from Jack Belk and it works. that's a beauty but you can also get a 2-position safety for about $100 /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." I asked these questions on another post but thought I'd cover all bases; "About Jim Kobe's two position safety, do they lock the bolt when the safety is "on" or do they merely prevent the striker from going forward? Are they easy to fit for someone who has reasonable experience hacking Mausers?" "I ask, sir, what is the Militia? It is the whole people. To disarm the people is the best and most effective way to enslave them" - George Mason, co-author of the Second Amendment during the Virginia convention to ratify the Constitution

They do lock the bolt in position and block the firing pin. If you are somewhat mechanically inclined, fitting should be no problem. Normally they will fit without any adjustments. If You have a problem, call me. Jim Jim Kobe 10841 Oxborough Ave So Bloomington MN 55437 952.884.6031 Professional member American Custom Gunmakers Guild

I'm still looking for an FN left hand safety. I needed two, found one. Anyone have one they want to sell, I'd be very interested. Semper Paratus, Steve
