I'm looking at a Bell and Carlson carbelite tactical style stock for my Rem 700 heavy barrel in .223. Any body got any good or bad comments on these type of stocks? Thanks

If it is the "Medalist" series stock, it is a great one.

Maybe they've changed, but, I still have some remnants of an earlier B&C Carbelite stock hanging on my shop wall. It was put there many years ago with my air hose. I would hope that they have that stock prep thing down by now, 2008, but that little episode has left an impression, much like anything from E.R.Shaw that makes me want to greet the next one through the door, with a wooden stake and hammer. Their Medalist is better. It is a less expensive alternative to the very popular, the better built and more pricey HS Precision stock. I've had to reject a few of the Medalists because of alignment issues between the bedding block, the guard screw holes and the axis of the stock. One in particular was so far out of whack that to continue fitting, the barrel would have been hanging out of the side of the forend like a dog with it's head out a car window. I sent that particular stock back to B&C and the company actually repainted the area I had begun to cut on, put it in a new plastic bag, repackaged it and sent it back as a new stock. Because of that little episode, I won't recommend B&C. So my suggestion would be to get the "drop in" stock you want, assemble and tighten the complete barreled action into the stock to make sure the stock and barreled action shares a similar axis, swab a hidden, out of the way area with some acetone to make sure the finish won't come off chemically, and then hit it with an air hose to make sure the finish won't come of in the wind. Good luck! _______________________________________________________________________________ This is my rifle, there are many like it but this one is mine.
