Ok. You guys were extremely helpful on the extractor issue I'm Gonna test you again.... I've got a model 37 16ga. That is marked full choke. It is a plain barrel and has a brass bead that goes through the wall of the barrel so you can see the underside of it from the inside. I don't know if it's a screw or if it's peened in there , if they even did that. I would like to open this choke to light mod or IC but, after a conversation with Briley where the guy was iffy as to the success of keeping the bead on after opening it up I thought twice about it. Have any of you run into this and what was the solution? Muchas gracias amigos.

It is screwed in. It is common for the hole to go all the way through; it would be very difficult to tap a hole in a blind hole so thin. After you put the choke in it, it will be very thin and will be held by one or 2 threads, but that is done all the time. If it falls out, you can solder it on. Or with a little ramp.

I was gonna do a straight opening to imp mod or IC versus tubes. I ain't that fancy. Would it make sense to remove it and loctite it permanently ans then do the opening? That way the damn thing is already permanently installed and in place before the grinder goes to work? Sorry light mod not imp mod

It's done all the time. If the guy opening the choke is hesitant about it,,then just unscrew the bead and keep it. Send the bbl to him and have him work his magic on the choke. When it comes back, screw the bead back in. A couple .ooo" of the brass threaded stem will poke through into the bore. Polish that off and you're done. You can lock-tite the bead it if you like, but most are just tightened in place. If the Ithaca bbl originally had a RayBar front sight on it (most did) then the threads are 6-48. That's large when it comes to most front sight bead thread sizes, but not something un-obtainable if you loose it or need another.

I would leave it in and let them hone it out with the bore. I am surprised that Briley even mentioned it. I am sure this is not the first front bead they have encountered.
