Mr. Kobe posed an interesting reply to the thread on "safetys" that I would some follow-up on...I know several people and sources that like the sideswing 2 position M70 style...Chapman, PM and others have parts,etc...I also realize that this style is less expensive, but two questions arise: 1) how is the bolt disassembled and 2) beside cost, what advantage might I gain from the two-position? Inquiring minds are running wild...Thanks, Arthur

It has been said and I have heard from the persons mouth (who has travelled to Africa) that he feels a 3 pos will get you killed...either it is on or it's off he reckons is the best bet. I think I re-call Gregor Woods writing the same thing in his book as well.

I'm more inclined to think that a trigger-block safety will get someone killed. I've hunted Africa three times, two of them with 3-pos safeties. You carry the rifle in the truck fully locked. When you get out, you go to position 2 and jack in a round. When you're close enough to be ready to consider a shot, go to "fire". It doesn't matter whether you have a Mauser flag or a Winchester side, same drill every time. Keeping that in mind, though, I actually don't see any particular reason for the fully locked position unless you like to run around with a loaded chamber. I don't! So it's sort of a moot point, IMO.
