I have an extra rifle in 22-250, I dont want to rebarrel, so if you could just rechamber to a different caliber, what would it be?

Thanks
Bill

You don't have a lot of choices there, especially if you want to stay "factory".

220 Swift.

Now, if you're willing to set it back (cut off the chamber, and rethread before rechambering), then your choices are pretty much wide open.

I'd leave it as a 22-250 before I made it into a Swift. If you want to start fresh, I've always liked the 223 (or better yet, the 222). But even then, if the 22-250 barrel is in good shape, and shoots well, I'd just leave it alone. A good 22-250 is hard to beat....

I agree with Coldbore. 22-250 is a great caliber. I can't see what the 220 Swift has over it in reality. If you want to go to a wildcat, and assuming that you have a short action to work with, you might be able to use a 22 Cheetah or a 22-243.

I have a very cute Sako L-461 in .223 and the barrel formerly was a 22-250 barrel from a M-70 takeoff. I works for me.

You can also go to .224 middlestad or .22-250 AI

I can hit St Cloud MN from here.

The problem with going to a .223 is having to have the barrel cut and rethreaded, not too meny ctgs. you can just rechamber a 22-250 to.

If you don't mind reloading, go for the 22 or 6BR. You can goto http://www.6mmbr.com and look at some performance numbers.

If you have a 24" barrel the gain you will see from any normal rechamber would be marginal.

If you are wanting something to play with try the 224TTH http://www.ttha.com/224tth.htm

While to take full advantage you need 26" or more and a fast twist. I worked up loads for one and it was loafing with a 55 gr at 4000+

I would just go with a full rebarrel and go with the 6mmBR or 22BR. No forming and plenty accurate.

As usual just my $.02

BTW, I forgot to mention that Lapua does make 6mmBR ammo, but it is hard to come by.

You are going to have problems if you rechamber that barrel to 6 br
