I keep seeing mention of a left side safety on Mauser actions. I have a Yugoslavian Mod24b action with original shroud but with a Buehler two position wing safety on it. A left side safety(I'm a right hand shooter)sounds interesting but I don't know a thing about them or what's involved in the conversion. I know I want to keep the gas shield shroud. Can someone please fill me in on these safeties and maybe recommend a shop to do the work? APPRECIATE it! til later

EP: This type of safety is normally found on Brnos like the 21H. The safety lever is on the left side of the shroud. The other option is to install a "Greener" type safety with the button on the left. --- John303.

Some of the FNs had the lever on the left as well. I really prefer it on the left. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

Stuart Satterlee makes a left side safety for his own Mauser 98 style actions. It's the Winchester three position wing type safety, just on the other side, like a left handed Winchester Model 70. _________________________________ AR, where the hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history become the nattering nabobs of negativisim.

I had heard about left side safeties and thought they sounded a bit awkward. Then I acquired two FN actions with the safety on the left. Turns out that a right handed shooter only has to lift the thumb to release the safety. You don't have to move your hand around to get at the safety on the right side. Probably not important on anything but a dangerous game rifle where speed could be important ... but I really, really like the left side FN safeties! Putting one on my .458 AR which is to be a DGR. It might be faster unless all of your other safeties are on the right side, in which case you may try to do the wrong thing with the wrong rifle. Not usually life threatening except when something is trying to do unto you as you would do unto them. Dave One morning I shot an elephant in my pajamas. Mike,I like the idea of just lifting the thumb to release the safety. That got me to thinking that if my Beuhler saftey was on the left side, that would make it work as you describe. My barreled action is at Clearwater Reboring so I can't see what's involved. I had that safety out at one time to turn the plastic ball over in it as it was worn. Just thinking if Beuhler(or Beuhler like)made their safety for a left hand action, would it work? THANKS for all the responses so far! Sorry L-n-B,I was typing as you were. I've only used one rifle for hunting(lower 48 type)for almost 30yrs so I honestly don't believe it'll be a problem, although I see where your coming from. The rifle I'm dealing with now was strictly a varmint rifle(I never even fired it) so a quick safety was not really a concern. Just checking out options in case the existing safety doesn't work out. til later
