Anyone have an extra 8x57 barrel laying around?
All this talk on the 8-06 has got an itch going. I alreay have a sporterized Turk 8x57 that shoots good, so I'll leave it alone. I do have a VZ24 with a bad 7x57 barrel on it. Maybe if I can pick up a take off 8mm barrel in decent condition, I can ream a new chamber, screw it on and see what it will do.

Anybody with a take off barrel for cheap?

Hi LAR45-

I've got a VZ24 bbl in 8mm I just took off. All the sight parts are attached, bore is pretty good.

If you really want to do it right, get a new Walther threaded chambered 8 x 57 (Article # 726) matches the military contour, and have it rechambered to 8mm-06.

I've done several of the old military barrels, but they never really were up to expectations.

I got my Turk 8x57 to shoot in the .8" range with Speer 170's. I'm thinking that is acceptable for most any sporting rifle.

Maxman, e-mail sent.

Take that vz24 and rebarrel it for something new. you can buy a 8mm vz24 for about $100 and run a chamber reamer through it by hand and do OK if you take your time.

I have a lathe and Mill and I'm trying to learn to do all my own work. I'm going to try my hand at makeing the chamber reamer for this one, so I would like to practice on a cheap surplus barrel first before I do it on a good one. It looks like I have a couple of inexpensive barrels located. I'll have to see how they work.

Hi Glenn,

I got your e-mail and will ship out the barrel in the morning. A place to check out for used barrels is Kailua Custom in Oregon. Their web site has several take-off barrels listed. Their web site is http://kailuacustom.com/. I have some more information I'll e-mail you.

Good luck on your project, The Big Dog
