The ejector May be binding on the screw. Try backing off the screw a hair.

If that's the orig parts I'd say the spring ( flat spring ) cracked inside . It's a glorified v spring the outer is the dovetailed piece then there's a little piece on the inside .

I'm inclined to agree with Gary. Take it apart and see what you have. Could be a broken spring, could be the ejector is binding in the slot for some reason.

loosen screw a full turn, see if it falls back in .. might need to wiggle it a bit ... then put you thumb on box and tighten to snug .. see if problem returns -- if it does, troubleshoot parts as above

The weakest part of a Mauser . And they can take a lot of abuse . Some Mausers FN if I remember correctly, slotted the ejector to slow down the thrust on the spring assembly .
Kinda hard for me to describe but if you take the assembly apart you could see how it may help .

On second thought, it's totally trashed . But being the kind soul I am , I'll give ya $20 for it . Okay $25
I'd give ya the part but I'm outta those years ago . I did a work around following the 1917 fix , which was a small coil spring . Since the parts are available again , usually $20 it's a lot easier just replacing .

Yes, he could have missed the ejector pivot hole and jammed it against the box. As others have said take it off, inspect for damage and re-assemble. There is a cam on the pivot post milled into the receiver. The tail of the ejector box spring bears on this and provides the power to close the box against the receiver. If you removed the spring make sure you put it back in correctly. If the tail misses the post then the box won't close.

If you're talking about the same spring .The one on my M98 broke many years ago .I think even before I went to CST Roll Eyes. I cut a piece of hacksaw blade and stuck it in. Never again had a problem with it !! 2020

Is the scope included ?
Did you figure out what was broken or just installed the ejector wrong ?

Fair enough solution.
