I just picked up a JC higgins FN 30,06. I was told it had a timney trigger,I don't think so. The trigger lever is atached to the trigger guard assembly, never saw one like that. it works prety well and the pull is decent too, but I think I would rather have a timny. is this going to prove difficult to install ? Or would I be better off just leaving it as is it really works prety well as is, its just a little different to me. I think I will pull my FN (not a Higgins) 270 out of the stock and compare to the timney I know is in that one...tj3006 freedom1st

humm. this is interesting. it's not a set trigger is it? being that maufacturers very seldom put their name on anything nowadays you might have a problem figureing it out. pictures might help. most of the mauser rebuilds i have seen came from sears and monkey wards with military triggers with about 2 inches of take up. PLEASE EXCUSE CAPS, HANDICAPPED TYPIST. "THE" THREAD KILLER IT'S OK......I'VE STARTED UP MY MEDS AGAIN. THEY SHOULD TAKE EFFECT IN ABOUT A WEEK. That design is how the double set triggers are attached. There is nothing wrong with the design provided the rear guard screw sleeve remains in place to maintain the vertical spacing.

I think some Husqvarnas were made with pinned triggers and I also think some J.C. Higgins rifles were made with Husqvarna actions. So I bet you have a Husqvarna action in your J.C. Higgns. You can tell by the model number (30, 31, and so on). There was a whole thread about it a while back. "Experience" is the only class you take where the exam comes before the lesson.

If you look at this trigger, it operates like a m70 trigger. I think FN hinged the trigger off of the trigger guard to get around Winchester patents. I kept the FN trigger on a rifle I built about 25 years ago. Last fall, it fired when I released the safety. It now wears a Timney trigger. Dave

My FN Higgins model 50 was the same way. I replaced it with a military 98 trigger that my gunsmith worked over.

Husqvarna triggers are not attached to the trigger guard. Steve

I have had several with the trigger pinned into the guard assembly. Only problem I had was the triggers were made of a pot metal and broke easily. And [unfortunately]if the trigger is going to break you KNOW it`ll happen when you need it most and there is nowhere to go to get it fixed! Punch out the pin and get rid of the trigger and replace it with a Timney or, better yet, a Kepplinger. You`ll never be sorry you did! I have several FN Supreme 300 actions on hand right now. The JC Higgins model 50s all had what I cal trigger guard triggers. The Model 51s did not. The timney deluxe triggers dont always work well on FNs, but the Timney Fwts work just fine and dont even need adjustement. These action are plenty strong and in fact the first commercial Weatherbys were made on these very actions. Dont be scared to use them on any cartridge as long as they will feed through the action properly.

I have a JC higgins model 51 that also had the trigger hinged on the trigger guard. I replaced it with a timney that works well. Weagle
