Hello Gents, I'm planning a new custom gun and I want to use a good Brno action for this project. I have found three different Brno actions and I cant make up my mind on which one I should use. 1. Brno 21H from 1950 with what apears to be a ZG 47 safety and a single set trigger. It has the standard dual dovetails. Today the gun is chambered in 8x60s and in decent condition. 2. ZG-47, this one is a well used 30-06 thats been well cared for. Pretty much standard as far as I could tell. 3. ZKK in 30-06 but with a built in really nice peep sight, this gun is in exellent condition. The ZG-47 is already in the family and the other two will set me back around 250$. At first I was pretty certain that I should start with the ZG-47 and make it into a 9.3x64 with a new stock and new finish but then I found the 21H and started to think about a light little 7x64 and then came the ZKK as an outsider. I think that the ZG-47 and the 21H are much nicer guns but i really fell in love with the built in peepsight. So what should I do??? Henrik

Tough choice. I'd leave the 21-H alone as it sounds like a ZG-47/21 hybrid, or round bolt 21, because those are collector items, fairly scarce although I have heard of several in Sweden. ZGs are also prized as collector items, at least in the US, not sure I'd butcher it either. And the early ZKKs with pop up peeps are nice too. All desirable rifles, your choice.

Hallo Pottsy, unfortunatly I forgot the 7x61 S&H, that would be a nice one for sure. But I'm thinking that since choosing on of the guns turned out to be so difficult I might do both (ZG-47 and 21H that is) And I dont think that the 21H could or should be turned into a 7x61 S&H. But then I'm not familiar with the exact dimensions of the 7x61 even though I know one guy who uses it. But I do know that the 7x61 S&H hold some kind of world record as a danish hunter used a Schultz & Larsen in 7x61 to take over 270 different species around the world, (I'm not sure about the exact number). My thought from the start was that i wanted a gun on an central european theme, but since things never work out exactly as you have planned them I might have to do a pair I've been using two different 9.3x62 for more then 15 years now so I'm familiar with the 286 gr bullets and what they do to our Swedish mooses and boars. I'm a bit curious about the 21H though since it seems a bit odd. It's the safety of a ZG-47 no stripper clips a single trigger (and when I inspected the bottom metal there is no way that there ever were double triggers on this gun) The bottom metal is what I would expect from a m/21 as is the bolt. It's marked as being manufaktured in 1950 but it has they dual dovetails. By the way Johan, I bought a 300 wsm a year ago because I was curios about the short magnum concept. And while everything worked out nice it was a pretty boring experience( I found out that a 200 gr Norma Oryx at 850 m/s may be lethal to a moose) Henrik

I've started to plan this new project. Which you all know is at least half the fun of these kinds of projects. One of the questions that I got is if anyone knows if talley plans to produce 30 mm rings for brno bases? If the dont, what are my options regarding 30 mm rings? It does start to look like I really need a new pair not a new single gun I really want a 9.3x64 and the 21H is to nice to be left in the gunshop. Henrik

I think that the ZG-47 should become a 9.3x64 and the 21-H should become a 7x64 in a matching pair, simply styled with regard to weight vs. recoil and your personal physique and likes-dislikes. I cannot think of a better pair of rifles and may well do the same thing as I have a 22-H, two 21-Hs and two ZG-47s, myself. My only concern is that the brass is a bit difficult to obtain here in Canada, but, these are perfect cartridges for our hunting here in B.C. Then, when you get tired of them, I will "look after" them for you-if, Johan doesn't beat me to it!

Hello, thats what I'm starting to think as well. I want to chamber these classic european cartridges in two classic european action. Brass in 7x64 is no problem at all. But as far as I know RWS and Horneber are the only producers off brass in 9.3x64. That isn't a big problem in my book, as I've grown tired of cartridges that everyone uses Now my only concern is that I need to find decent rings in 30mm for the brno bases. it seems like we are lucky here in sweden since it isn't to difficult to find these guns in decent shape here Henrik
