I would like to find someone that does custom stocks for a 336. Not a new design, just looking to put nice looking wood on an older lever gun.
I will be in Central America and may have a chance at some nice raw hard woods to bring back for blanks, but would need someone to do the work. If that doesn't work there has to be soneone that already has them.

Any good stock maker will take on a job like this.
You just need to be willing to pay the expense.

I have lots of experience with Treebone and highly recommend their work. If you can't fit and finish the stock yourself there's quite a few of who could help you with it.

I bought a very early Marlin 336 in 30-30 last year. And, I've been trying to recall who works on them, as I had read about Mr. Brockman before, but forgot his name.
My sample is an very good condition, and I may want to upgrade it's stock also.

if you're bringing back a blank - don't forgeet the drying time - its measured in years

I will expand my answer of Dan Haney (570) 376-2161. Dan does a lot with exotic woods. He is the guy around here for difficult stocks, i.e. double guns, lever guns, etc with two piece stocks and tangs etc. Dan has experience finishing super oily tropical woods. He made a beautiful stock out of Brazilian Rosewood for my son's presentation gun for graduating Annapolis. I had I think 15 gunsmith buddies put there hands in on that gun. Their initials are all engraved on a flat of the octogon barrel, buried in the stock.

He is always looking for exotic woods. He can make you one up with his dry stock and you can use your blanks as payment or partial payment.

Bringing wood into the US has certain legal requirements also. One reason Turkish Walnut is steamed is to meet the requirements (bug and fungus free). Please check the Customs Regs and USDA. Sounds like a great project, you just don't want to do all the work of carrying it to the US and have it confiscated.
