zlr,
Do as Paul said, take it to a good smith and have it fixed. If it were me, I would not try to pawn it off on some unsuspecting guy at a gun show.

Charles Daly has been making a reputation for finding the cheapest places to have guns built. Recently they have been exploring Malasia for their rifles for manufacturing. Now that is a hot bed of qualified gunsmiths .......... not hardly. It is obvious that they do not care for their customers or their reputation.

Chic,

I agree. I'm pretty appalled at the dump it on the next unsuspecting sap mentality. Well, I've satisfied my curiosity about NEW commercial Mausers anyway. From here on out if I have the desire to collect any more they will be older, much older. Otherwise, I'll continue to resurect the fine old miltary actions. They have much more appeal anyway. It's a shame, I thought they might have been a decent value for some one wanting a Mauser but not wishing to go through all the effort of converting a surplus action.

I suppose it's time to break out the mill and cut some new holes. I never really saw the need for 8x40's especially on such a mild kicker as the .30-06 but at least they will clean up the holes.

Thanks All!

It's not so much the recoil that I think calls for the #8's, but that rough handling can pop them as well. Not that I recommend handling a rifle in a way that would pop #6's , but it never hurts to have the scope well hitched to the reciever

I believe these are the same as the Mark X, I've got one that was built as a 458 Win with a Boyds JRS stock and Douglas barrel, several hundred full power loads through it now with no problems. Of course mine came from the gunsmith with the bases mounted so I've no idea if he had problems, don't know what might lurk under there.

Ray,

Aren't these Charles Daly Mausers the same as the Interarms Mark X actions of yesteryear? I was under the impression that they were the same animal, just a different brand name.

I've seen the Charles Daly line decline in quality dramatically. Their MO seems to be go with the cheapest possible supplier.

Sorry to hear about how they treated you, I guess their lifetime warranty is meaningless!
