Have a Rem bolt with .473 bolt face that I am thinking of having opened up for a magnum case. Any idea of what this should cost and who would you recommend? Thanks DRSS Beretta 45-70 belgian mag Tikka 512S 9.3 x 74R Baikal o/u 30-06 Looking for next one

I can't answer your question. But I'll ask another one....Have you called Pacific Tool & Gauge in southern Oregon to see if they can supply a bolt for you and how much they would charge for it? You might even be able to find that out on-line. If you haven't investigated that avenue, I would suggest looking into it as a first step toward making your decision. You will have the cost of opening the bolt face and installing an aftermarket extractor. Depending on who does the job, it could run somewhere between $150.00 and $200.00. The key word being "could". If you go with the PT&G bolt, you will have the cost of the bolt and handle, plus the expense of fitting and headspacing the bolt to the action. _______________________________________________________________________________ This is my rifle, there are many like it but this one is mine. I just looked at the PT&G site and they have a one piece bolt and handle for about $168 IIRC. Then, after one has checked the headspace with the new bolt in the rifle,he might need to have some headspacing done, or he might not. Probably not, as it sounds to me like the original poster is looking at a new, magnum chambered barrel anyway. When the new barrel is fitted, or the old barrel rechambered, I would expect the installer/gunsmith to headspace it properly at that time as part of the barreling or rechambering effort. Yes, going to change to a different caliber so a PTG might be the way to go. Thanks DRSS Beretta 45-70 belgian mag Tikka 512S 9.3 x 74R Baikal o/u 30-06 Looking for next one

If you are going to a different caliber, assuming you are not doing that yourself, just have the one smith do it all at the same time. I'd go with Kobe. Larry "Peace is that brief glorious moment in history, when everybody stands around reloading" -- Thomas Jefferson
