Have been looking around for somebody with a pattern I like for 550 CZ, I'm kinda like a dog catching a car, have a blank and not sure who to send it to or what to do with it for the most part. I ran across Mike Kokolus, he is a stock maker in PA. I called him today, may not have what I want but he shot straight and is a nice guy. Anybody used him for stock work.
He is no doubt old school, I asked if he had a web site or email address.......he said, thats for the guys with nothing to do, I don't have time for that, I'm backed up 80,90 stocks......I had to laugh. He offerd to run me a stock on scrap piece of wood to see if I liked it, he said all I had to do was pay for shipping, I thought that was straight up. My bet he is a good guy to do business with.

Bill Soverns has had a lot of stocks duplicated by him. I have spoken to him on the phone and I believe he has a Dakota duplicator. His prices are good and from Bill says, he does a nice job. When I have a stock duplicated I like it done on a Hoenig Rodman duplcator. It is slower but because of a patented item on this brand, a 1:1 duplication can be done and it saves me a lot of time. I do not know about Mike's stock making ability, only his prowess with a duplicator. He has been doing it for some time and the bad ones dont last that long.
If you take Mike up on that pattern, glass your metal into it so you have a exact copy for the inletting and then play with the outside, even using Bondo to get the shape the way you want it and then you can send it to him for duplication.

Mike turned a couple of Sav. 99 stocks for me and I was pleased as he left enough wood in the right places to work with..I told him where I wanted it and why and thats what I got...

Thanks for the info, Mike will probably be a good place for me to start. Other than a Fagen drop in or two, all the guns I've built have been Synthetic in the last 20 yr or so. I have much to learn about wood stocks and buying blanks, size of blanks, types of wood and turning etc. Only recently have I had any interest in nice wood. The different machines and levels of duplicating are quite interesting.

i have used mike several times for those people who want something different and he turns my blanks. he used to be up the road but has since moved to another part of the state. his work is good and he is an honest person to deal with. one of his guns were featured in rifle magazine at one time i believe. as i said i get him to turn my blanks when needed, never had him do the complete job.
