I've been learning the normal checkering for a little while now. I was planning on learning basket weave also. But now I am starting to think that it is no longer something that anybody would be interested in paying for.

Any thoughts?

It went out with roll-over cheek pieces and white line spacers, add 45* fore end tips too.

kinda depends on the wood sometimes. i finished a wild maple stock a bit ago that got the basket weave treatment. between the wood appearance and the difficulty in kepping a line straight it just was the thing to do

Just for the record, it can be spelled two ways, both are accepted: fleur de lis, or fleur de lys. It means lily flower.

Looks like skip line checkering, like Weatherby's. I think I have a spacer cutter head somewheres for the skip space. Got it in a grab bag $3 box at Numrich 20 years ago, never used it.

My '06 basket weave stock pattern built in 1978 or so is on the R. Looks like a lot of work.

Basket weave carving was popular in past years. People still request these type of rifle stocks, but I don't know who to send then for the work. Most guys will not try to learn any thing different. Just plain classic now!!

Here is the last one I worked up in 1993. First the type of tools used and a little pattern design were shot with a Hi 8 video and the pictures captured from the video.
