Saw a 257 roberts mauser action rifle at the local gun shop. Had Kar 98 stamped on the left side, it was a small ring m98 though. What I could see on the front ring not hidden by the scope base was a "W" from the left side. What action would this be? Looked like a pretty nicely done rifle.

I don't know where they came from, but I have looked at a few of them and noticed that the sidewalls of the front ring are very very thin. I don't know that I would want to use them for anything but a low pressure cartridge.

The Kar98 is, in fact, a small ring Mauser with large diameter barrel shank threads.... MKane160 You can always make more money, you can never make more time...........LLYWD. Have you signed your donor card yet?

I bought some of these from Springfield Sporters years ago. I strongly suspect the W you could see stands for Warsawa, a Polish manufacturer if I remember correctly earlier.
