Are they all the same?

My .270 is a sporterized VZ-24 with a cheap side-swing safety (not very positive, tends to slip to "off"). I want to replace it with a Buehler-type but need a new sleeve. I got one at a show and it won't thread on.

Do I need to look for some distinguishing marks or something?

john: if the shroud is for the vz 24 it may need to be fitted. I have seen some differences in the threads from vz-24 and other mausers.I believe the threads for the mauser and say a rem 700 are to totaly diffrent criters.

The VZ-24 was built on WW1 vintage machinery from one of the German arsenals (Danzig or Erfurt, I think) so the saw threads should (must) fit. These threads need to be lapped in anyway so try it again with a little very fine grinding paste.

Thanks for the info. I checked it out again--the threads on the surplus bolt sleeve I got look flatter or damaged or something--next show I attend, I will bring the sleeve that's on the gun now. Or I will check to see what Gun Parts has. (BTW if you haven't tried it their online ordering works fine with prompt delivery.)
