I have heard that they aren't too bad if you do the EGR delete on them. If not done they are a POS.

Had one-serviced by the book; at 103000 miles, just out of warranty the turbo blew, taking out the oil cooler and other assorted parts. Cost five grand to get it fixed. Avoid them at all cost.

I'll be the odd man out.

It appears that the key to a healthy 6.0 is cooling system maintenance/mods and the updated Factory parts.

A lot if not most of the egr/head gasket failures were caused by clogged oil coolers (on the coolant side),one fix is add a coolant filter and change the type of coolant
after making sure the oil cooler is OK.

The flex oil feed line to the turbo fails internally-has been updated to a hard line.

There is a fitting on the high pressure oil pump(the STC) that needs to be updated along with the "Dummy plugs".

If your looking at a used 6.0 definitely check the "delta" -the difference between the oil and coolant temps.
Checked easily with a Scangauge II (about $125) or the TorqueBoss app($8) on a smartphone along with a bluetooth OBD reader($15)
More than a fifteen degree difference and the oil cooler may be clogged.

Mine has been trouble free for well over 100,000 miles..

Ford announced a new incentive/give away for anyone purchasing a Ford product. They are giving a free dog to anyone who purchases a new Ford...they figure at least you will have a friend to walk home with. Big Grin

My cousin had a 6.0. Took great care of it. When that pile of garbage hit 100K it constantly over heated. Everyone (dealer included) tried to fix it. After a year or two of replacing parts he gave up.

My friend had one as will. I cannot remember how many injectors he replaced but it was MANY!! He finally gave up!

Avoid the 6.0 and 6.4. The 6.7 is great.

BTW I am not against Fords. I had a 1986 F250 6.9 that was trouble free. It was stolen with 450k on it & never recovered. A F250 1999 with 355K that I sold in 2013 for 10 grand.
If I was looking for a truck I would look for a low mile 7.3 even if I had to pay a premium.

I have two friends that have had the 6.0. Once they got just past the 100000 mark the problems started.

I have a 99 7.3 with 180000 on it and I don't think it was even broken in until the 150K mark.

Absolutely bulletproof.

can't imagine getting rid of it though I have been tempted to sell it to finance another trip to South Africa....

If you do the maintenance and a few upgrade mods
they will go a long time. Eventually parts will
fail and diesels are more expensive to fix. My
2005 F-350 Crew Cab 4x4 has 232,000 miles today
and is still running strong. Hope to make 500K.
Another thing is the 6.0 likes a single consistent driver, not multiple different drivers.
Good luck Will, the 6.4 is trash and the 6.7 is
the best.
