what are you planning on using it for, and age of riders?

4K can get you 2 or 3 decent running bikes, not from china

I live outside the city limits so we will use it to buzz up and down the raods on weekends-will haul it up to the deer lease on occasion, but mostly for play...

and in lubbock?

find a decent running kawasaki lakota, its a little LOW MAINT light weight, air cooled, "regular" oil, chain drive 2 wheel drive, and try that out. Lots of parts on ebay, and you should be able to find one from 800-1500 bucks ..

they are light, nimble, quick, and fun to hunt on.. cheap cheap to fix, and not very bad natured.

a little light grey smoke might be okay .. any white smoke is a no-go

take a compression gauge with you.. 150-185 is good, doesn't matter if its from the starter or from pulling it

For fun it is hard to beat the Polaris Scrambler 2 stroke. I have had three of them with minimal problems. They are very fasst, with push button 4wd. I have hunted elk on them, done some very harsh trail riding, sand dunes, you name it. Very dependable rigs. There are lots of aftermarket parts if you get into that. They are belt drive just drive a snowmobile. Just my 2 yen.
