I am still driving my 1987 [thats right eighty seven] Nissan Pathfinder.

It has @ 289,000 and runs better than the day I bought it.... But I need to get a new one for my long trips.

Whanever I get must be 4 wheel drive. I would like one bigger than my Pathfinder, as the places I hunt at now I do not have to hunt out of the travel vehicle.

I am considering a Toyota, or Nissan Product or maybe a Chevy/GMC Suburban, as I am moving out to the country and there are not any of them "Fergein" dealers close by.

If I got a Surburban it would be a 3/4 ton 4x4.

I want gasoling not diesel, mainly so eveything I have burns the same fuel.

Opinions???

Doing further research the Toyota Sequoia is looking pretty good.

I am a GM guy, but all of the manufacturers are making good stuff. A friend of mine has as about 285k on a 2002 Chevy 4x4 and it just lost reverse in the trans. (pos Chevy). Wink

I have seen (when I was in the business) GM, Isuzu, Ford, Honda, Toyota and Nissans with well over 300k miles on them with nothing more than regular maintenance.

If I were looking for a used vehicle it would be at an old Isuzu Trooper with a standard trans and a 2.6L engine. In the new market it would be a Suburban.

Hi Tony.. I bought the Toyota FJ Cruiser and it is a great little car. Got it through Costco here in Salt Lake and saved a bundle. Has a lot of pep and is great in the snow around here. I am not hauling kids around anymore so there is plenty of room.

Thanks for the info guys.I have not had a chance to do any serious looking, but I did look at some vehicles in a few parking lots.

Dr. W, one of my buddies has a FJ. I looked at them a while back. Very nice but I need something a little bigger.

The Nissan Armada wouldn't be a bad choice either. Unfortunately they don't offer the Duramax in the 3/4 ton Suburban.

My father is driving his third Jeep Cherokee.We used one once to go caribou hunting and it was great.It carried 4 big caribou on its roof for 20 hours,from the frozen north.I believe he would rather own a full size pick-up like mine if it fit in his garage. Wink I would buy a nice diesel pick-up if I were you.

Tony , I had a 1990 trooper 4 cylider because the v6 was a Chevy iron Duke, and the four was an Isuzu ingine. I put 140,000 miles on that one and in 1990 traded it in on the 1999 Trooper I'm driveing now. This Trooper has the overhead cam 3.5L v six ingine that is 205 hp, that pulls this 4800 lb vehicle like a race car. It now has 103,000 miles on it, and it still drives just like it did the day I bought it, and gets 20 MPG @ 70 miles pe hour. It has never had anything done to it other than change the timing belt on schedual at 65,000 miles, and the belt we removed was in perfect shape, plus two batteries, and three sets of tires. I have two parking lot dings in both front doors, and hole worn in the driver's seat from getting in and out of the truck. It is standard 5 speed with high, and low range 4X4, and shift on the fly for the high range 4X4,great for driveing on patchey ice, stop apply for the low range!

The new ones are not Isuzus, but are Chevys! You've seen it at the ranch It's two tone green with silver trim.

That old pathfinder has served you well! See you at the DSC show, and/or down at the ranch. Good hunting buddy!

In this market buying a "NEW" SUV, doesn't make any sense when unthinking people are bailing out of them and buying "SMART" cars.

Look at the used market and get anything you want for half or better off the new price. See my post elsewhere on the 2005 Excursion. Now this vehicle may not fit your requirements, but out there some is one that will.

The Excursion Limited 4x4 was a Rip Off at $55,000 when new, but 3 years later at a negotiated price of $18K with 43,000 miles on it, it was a real bargain, and the dealer breathed a sigh of relief in his own mind when I bought it.

Check out www.cars.com or similar for a look around at all available used rigs in your area.

You are right about Diesel, which in my view made sense when it was half to 2/3 the price of gas, and the extra few mpg it gets in modern rigs doesn't justify the extra expense.
