I had a Hodaka back in the mid 70's. It was some kind of Wombat, was the only Womabt they made the Combat Wombat? It had a nice shiny chrome tank and I believe a round breather with a Wombat on it. I don't remember the size.

Thanks ty, I was thinking it was about a 125cc bike. Was mine a Combat Wombat or just a Wombat?

If you had a round black aircleaner you had a wombat. Tha combat wombat has a olive green aircleaner and is more oval shape.

My uncle gave me a Hodaka back in the late '70s. It was a beautiful little red bike with a chrome gas tank. I think it was called a Desert Rat, but I don't remember. Wish I had it now. I also had an Ossa 250 Phantom - Anyone remember those? The bike was evil.

I had one also I believe it was an ace 100 with a blue plastic steen tank on it.

I love the early 1970-s dirt bikes I wish I still had a couple of the ones that I had.

My current bike is a 2006 Wr450f but I still miss my 2 strokes I one day I hope I can find a nice IT 465 Yamaha again.

I still have my Rickman Matisse 250 in the garage. I had it out 3 or 4 years ago, but wound up loosening the kick start lever on the splined shaft when I went to start it the next day. Haven't started it since. It brought back memories...I think I got it in 1972 or 74.

I raced just about all the brands mentioned here from 1955 till I sold my last Maico Adolfe Weil factory replica 400cc moto-cross bike in 1982. I bought my first Maico in 1955, was a 1954 250CC with the early earls front forks.

I raced Suzuki, Yamaha, Zundap, Maico,CZ, AJS, BSA, Matchless, JAWA and James. Mostly motocross, but flat track, hare & hounds,Deasert races, but the last race I rode was the Terantula 100 mile Cross country in New Mexico, on the 400 Maico at the age of 45 years old!

You guys brought back some good memories of days gone by for this old hoopty-do jocky!

Thanks BBH, I did have some nice ones over many years. The Jawa was a 250cc motocrosser, and it was explosive off the line, or out of the turns. The Jawa was in about 1957, and for it's time had about the most travel in the suspension of anything on the market a that time. However nothing handled like the Maicos, they didn't look fast from the sidelines, because they were so smooth, but they just seemed to control themselves, and pass everything on the track in the rough.

I also had a Penton, and that wasn't as good on a motocorss track, but was fine in a cross country race. I raced BSA, and Maico on flat track in Mexico, and Texas, Did enduros in the sacrimentos mountains of New Mexico, and at BIG BEAR, and Catalina grand prix on Maico,Yamaha, and on a Zundap. Did a lot of stadium cross when that first started on the Maicos, and Yamahas. I rode the 250 class for some time but mostly the open class with 400CC bikes. Lot of fun, but spent a lot of time over the years on crutches as well, and did both my youngest sons.

We have a really good Motocross park near my home but I can't go to the races because I'm too old now (74 yrs old) to get involved, and another bike is just too tempting! I really miss raceing those clod throwers though!

Blackbearhunter, sorry to get back after so long but I rarely open the off road forum, and when I looked at my PMs I didn't find your PM. Was there something you needed?
