Booooooooyah! Yeah, Valentine's Day Post here!

I bought it at 5,701 miles from the local Ford dealer. The Sales Mgr. is a serious Harley guy, and sells a lot of them as a sort of "side business."

And so tomorrow -- Feb. 15, I ride into town (120 miles) to the Harley Davidson Dealer for 5000 Maintenance interval. There is not authorized dealer/maintenance locally. A local "chopper mechanic" did the 1000 mi. "break in" and a 3,000 mile service. But I don't fully trust him. Harley-Davidson has some proprietary electronic equipment that needs to be used on service. Modern bikes here have a "mother board" and computer.

It's predicted heavy rain, some possible snow in lower elevations (which I need to cross, but not anything extended).

I have rain gear. This is not my first Harley.

I took both mine out yesterday, as we had a 50 degree day between months of 20-30. The Road Glide was fine in full dress, but the Softail was a bit brisk without a "shield"....especially over 85!!!

Waited until the bright blue sky warmed to 42F and then did about 220 miles down the coast yesterday. Still some ice in the shady spots. Snow predicted by mid-week, and it NEVER snows here.

I'm doing a blog now --

I like to keep a log of what's going on. Paradise Harley-Davidson is a local shop. We do a lot of play on the "Paradise" motif.

We sold it. 54 days . . . We love riding, but I'm just not up to the maintenance, care, and worry.

Laid eyes on one of these a couple of years ago. Ural, Russian-built the way bikes were made when they were SIMPLE AND FUN, not expensive and impossible to work on...

Yeah, complicated, expensive, impossible to work on. Most bikes have a motherboard these days. This one had an audio system, motherboard, cruise control and ABS brakes. $24,000 bike. My 1970 Triumph 650 cc cost me what this HOG cost for a 20 K mile maintenance.

I know I'm not alone in knowing the value of Simple and Fun things... Unfortunately, it has become more apparent only as the value of my wages and savings becomes more important; as I'm getting too old to afford a $24,000 bike and its maintenance, for example...

Are you saying you can`t change oil,a filter and tighten everything down????That is what they do .10,000 miles you change your fork oil.Really unless your ECU goes cowshit, nothing goes wrong with these new Bikes.

Yes, the new Twin Cam motors on the HDs are a big change in reliability and maintenance over the older EVOs and such. Change the oil, check tire pressures, go over the bolts every few months, and RIDE!

It may have been put together in Russia but more likely in East Germany! regardles of the name, that is an early BMW or exact copy of, with the Earls front fork, and side car.
