Will look forward to seeing the pics! And hearing any stories!

"Stories" might give the idea that I make these up. Nothing of the sort. Take for example a fellow hunter going to Africa with us, and arriving at the check in counter with his daughter's passport instead of his? I seem to have an incredible knack of mixing with individuals who seem to lack what we call common sense! I spend all my life suffering!

You're a natural magnet for the intellectually challenged. It must be your looks. I've been telling you for years to write a book-at least you'd make some money off of your suffering! Since you won't listen to me, I'm beginning to seriously think that you actually like the suffering! What's the term for it? 'A Glutton For Punishment'?!

Lots of camels this time, the herdsman has my respect for staying out their with the animals, got to be pretty warm most of the time. The falcons are really amazing in catching their “prey”, pretty birds, too. Thanks for the photos. Karl Evans

I am having a bit of fun with the falcon trainers. It is the beginning of the season, and some falcons need a lot of training. They don’t listen to instructions, they don’t follow commands and they don’t fly very fast, or far. I keep getting funny looks when I laugh and say “bloody hell! I can WALK faster than THAT!” The well trained ones are a pleasure to watch. I find it very hard to keep them in my camera view. Trying to get some action pictures.

You can actually see the difference in the speed the birds are flying?

Yes. Like watching a geriatric old man walking up the stairs and an Olympic runner! Had a hilarious morning today. We decided to have a cooked breakfast. Took some camping cooking utilities. A friends wife volunteered to cook eggs and Halloumi cheese! The eggs started running off as soon as she cracked them - the surface was not level! Got visited by a yarbou - a desert mouse that looks like a miniature kangaroo. And I caught it. And I got bit. Happens every time I catch one of these, to the utter amazement of everyone. At least they got to laugh. We played soccer and paddle ball, and one of my friends taking his camels out came over to say hello, and get breakfast. Photos will follow.

Yesterday was a day to remember. Several families turned up. We normally meet at an open area, where those who do not have a four wheel drive - or too scared to drive up the dunes - can ride with others. I normally arrive before anyone, and they started coming. Some were a bit late than the time allocated, and it was suggested that I drive ahead and find a suitable place. I knew what would happen, as once you are over a dune, you become invisible, and they would never find me. So I stayed until the last ones arrived, they let the air out of their tires, and were ready to go. Or so I thought. I headed out, and could see them coming behind behind a few hundred yards. And just as I had thought before, I found a nice flat area between the sand dunes so we can lay our large camp mat and get ready for the girls to prepare breakfast. Suddenly, I hear the mad lot whizzing by behind one of the sand dunes. I ran up to look, and sure enough, they have already passed my location and heading deeper and deeper inti the dunes. Not a very good idea with this lot. I was trying to get one of them on the phones, when the inevitable happened. One of the got stuck! Managed to contact them, and told them were I was. The rest got back to me, leaving the one stuck in the sand. I flew the drone to look and saw that he is managing to get himself out. The ladies setup the kitchen, and a great breakfast was prepared. All sorts of bakeries, eggs any which way you lie and fresh coffee. We had two beach surfing board we use to slide down the dunes. I have installed GoPro cameras on both. This was tried last week, and was very popular with this mad lot. I set up a video camera opposite the dune they are sliding down, so I get all the comedy show. Never occurred to me what a bunch of madmen we had. They brought up a chair so Walter can sit on it. Suddenly, I saw he was unceremoniously being evicted off his chair. They sat the chair on top of the two beach surfboards, they started sitting on it and sliding down the dunes, with hilarious results. As if that was not enough, I could see from the drone camera that two were running back to the breakfast area. They brought back one of the tables. I was not sure what was going on, so just kept looking. They turned the table upside down, with one side legs extended. They laid the table on the sand, the handle end pointing down. They started sitting on it, as if it was a bike, and sliding down the dunes. Again, with absolutely killing laughter. This went on for a while, then they came up with another idea. They turned the table right way up, again with one side legs extended. They put the table on top of the dune, lower end on the sand. Then they started putting the surf boards on top of the table, accelerating downwards. Then they started down hand stands and sliding down. Walter said he had not laughed so much in years. The women were complaining that it was all my fault! Apparently their husbands are pure angels when I am not around! I have literally thousands of photos, I will try sorting a few out and posting them.

I'm surprised that a group of them didn't overturn one of the vehicles and sit on top of it to slide down a large dune. Sounds like the inmates finally escaped the asylum!

It is very likely they will do that, unwittingly!

A friend's wife said "Oh God! They have all gone bonkers now!" As we were having dinner and and watching some of the videos. One suggestion was we try two inner tubes - small ones that one can slip into - two of them, one by the knees and one by the shoulders, and roll down. Then a suggestion that we try to find two very large dunes opposite each other - not possible - and roll down one, momentum carrying one up the other. Then another suggestion is using a very large inner tube, by getting inside it and rolling down. Then someone suggested it would be more fun if had a bump on the way. All sorts of ideas of how to form a bump on the sloping side of a sand dune. Then someone showed a video of bump football. These are plastic bubbles one get into, they cover the upper half of the body, inflated, and they play soccer in them. They basically knock each other down. I have already ordered these. My wife said "you all are having far too much fun. I am coming along too" Bloody hell, coming year IS going to be fun!

Maybe your group should try out for starring roles in the next 'Jackass' movie. Should be 5 star!

Funny you should say that, as this came about last night too! I honestly have no idea how all this develops. All I wanted to do is provide a leisurely break on Friday morning. Now it seems this has got a life of its own! The following pictures come no where near conveying the hilarious events they show. Sadly, I am being blamed again. One of the wives of a friend who did not participate, and asked to be included, said "You get involved with Saeed, and you never know what might happen next!" LOTS of FUN!

After looking at the pictures... Question, Are there enough chiropractors available to handle that work after sand surfing like that?
|
Administrator |
Chiropractors are for sissies! We do not need any stinking bone movers. We do it all by ourselves! Having said that, someone suggested we have an ambulance stand by after hearing what is planned next! Worst part is the incredible number of people who are DYING to sign up. I am getting Whatsapp messages from other countries from individuals coming here asking to be included! Apparently madness is not just found in UAE nationals. Compared to some, I am rather sane! I think I am losing my touch!

What a sad situation I find myself in. I have had several phone calls now, all ask the same bloody question "What have you been doing to them?" What the hell? I am sitting far away on the other side of the dunes, flying my drone. The over grown children were all by themselves, THEY are the ones doing their best to break their necks, nothing to do with me! My intention was to show them how crazy they were, so next time they can enjoy a sit down breakfast in peace and quiet instead. But no. Not with this lot. They started dreaming of new things to do while watching my cautionary video. As the old saying goes "you can lead a horse to water..."

Thanks for my nightly chuckle, or rather shall I say, a good old belly laugh! Damn Saeed, you have to be one of the funniest men that I know!

Christmas hats like Santa Claus or Christmas hats like Santa Lucia or Christmas hats like elves or the Wisconsin version of a Christmas hat?

I am back in Dubai after a couple of weeks in the Alps. Our friends here have withdrawals symptoms. But we have plans for the excursions next year. I got some bubbles - look on YouTube for bubble football. I got some inner tubes. We are planning on going next Sunday, the 2nd. Stay tuned for more CamelAss adventures!

New Year messed up our Friday outing, so we went on Sunday! Also, we have changed our weekend from Friday-Saturday to Saturday-Sunday in line with the rest of the world. So our best trips might be on Saturdays. Anyway, we have had lots of rain, and many roads were closed. But, we did mange to go have fun! And what fun it was! We got those bubble things people get into and play soccer. The lot here used them for other activities! I will post pictures.

Is that sand sometimes damp below the surface? Is that why it's darker on some trips? Is it from dew or from rain?
|

Wet sand due to rain. | |||

Saeed I noticed that a lot of the cars have a tall flag. None of the dune buggies do. Seems the dune buggies would have them so they can see if another vehicle is coming from the other side as they are going over dunes.
|

Depends on the user, and frankly, the ones we call "dune bashers" need them more tan anyone else. These are the people who set up on sorts of several car caravans, following each other over the dunes. These are the ones who are most inexperienced in desert driving, and likely to run into each other because they follow each very closely. I see them from the air sometimes, and it really is a wonder we don't have more accidents. The tails flags are useful in certain areas, but in others.
|

I would think if useful in any area, why would you not have one? 4 wheelers have a mount built onto them so no modification required. Some states here require them.

Saeed I notice you are in some of the pictures. Do you have a photographer that goes on these outings?
|

Everyone takes pictures with their cameras. I also have spare cameras for others to use. Went out on Saturday. Wind was blowing so hard we could not cook breakfast. We had to put our food in the back of two trucks, and feed off there. We have lots of assorted bakeries, and all had crunchy feelings - sand! No matter, a few braved the elements, and we did have some fun.
