It is bloody cold here! I sit on our veranda in the morning with two heaters on. Get myself a coffee, and put my feet close to one to keep warm. While reading a book about whalers stranded in the arctic! Great fun.

My second home. They always make me feel part of the family. Got invited to go on a boat around the islands by a friend, who I know is a bit unlucky, I won’t say anything else. He went out and had a problem with his engine. It packed up. He called another friend, likewise, a bit unlucky too. This one goes out to tow him back. Partway he discovers he has no petrol! This is usual occurrence here. Another one is arriving tomorrow. An unlucky one. We are looking forward to his arrival. For the past few years he wanted to swim around one of the islands here, but always managed to put it. We have gathered a very capable support team for him, including myself. He said “grate fir all the support, but PLEASE stay away from me!” Ungrateful one. So I have been relegated to flying the drone over him. I have ordered a dropper for my drone. Sadly it has not arrived yet. Would have been fun dropping cold beers at him!

Saeed--I can tell by all the photos you are fascinated with bodies of water. Living in the desert, had you ever seen such before?

Ha! Even Dubai has a coastline, right? Beautiful country there in northern Sweden. Reminds me of the Maine coast. But I would not want to be there in winter! Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

winter is the most peaceful part of the year let alone the cold that can be bad ... no mosquitoes and no tourist ...

There are no tourists here! Apparently they found out I am coming, according to a friend here!

I have a friend who has a sort love hate relationship with anything that has a battery. He has a drone. And we decide to walk to a top of a mountain overlooking the sea, and video the islands. As we were all walking, I asked him if he had charged his battery. He said he did. He made a point of charging his drone over night, because he did not want to hear anything from me. We got to the top of the mountain, and I flew my drone. Beautiful morning. He was fidgeting with his drone. Turns out he charged the drone! Without the battery! A few days later we went out to one of the outlying islands for a picnic. Again, I reminded him to charge his drone. We got to the island, and I flew my drone. Hessa said “I think he is having problems with his drone. Go help him!” I went to have a look. His drone is charged. But the control unit was not! A few days later, he wanted to swim around one of the islands. It was 4.8 kilometers swim as we found out later. He was starting from our house. He got his wet suit on. He was looking at his Garming Fenix watch, and scratching his head. I asked what was going on. His watch battery was dead! I had to lend him mine!

Thank you very much in being in on the restoration of the Arab white Oryx. Over the years always wanted to see them in the wild and original home. Also thanks for helping with the restoration of the Camels. If it weren't for interested people, we wouldn't have them. Maybe some day, the Scimitar horn oryx can be restored back in it's native land. Read a hunting story by Elgin Gates about his hunting the Scimitar horned Oryx, when the still available in their homeland.

What is the water temperature there?

We are breeding Arabian oryx, Scimitar horned oryx, Dama gazelles and addax. They are doing very well. Water temperature in Mosson varies between 15-6 degrees C.

You have to be a lot tougher than I am to swim there!

I never do! Any water warmer than 32 degrees is too cold for me! My daughter skis in it.

Saeed, that is why I hate every kind of battery! They don't tap me on the shoulder and say, hey, Mike, I am about to disappoint you terribly. You had better change me out. Nor do they say, when I inevitably ignore them, hey, Mike, I am not kidding. Change me. Now. They just up and die. I guess like we all do, but still, I pay for batteries, right? Well, I use a lot of gadgets that use batteries. And it never bothers me, as I try to be prepared. I have a backpack with camera and drone batteries . This I leave in my workshop, which you have seen. In there I have set up charging stations where I can charge several batteries at a time. Right now I use drones out in the desert quite a lot. I carry 16 batteries with me. The remote runs out of charge, and you cannot replace the battery. So I carry a large power bank in my pocket, with a cable connecting the remote! My daughter makes fun of this, as she tells others I can only take two passengers in my 4 wheel car. One in front and on in the back - if he can find space among all the cameras and spare batteries! Yesterday we went to the desert for breakfast with many friends. Some residents here and others were visitors. We ended up with quite a lot of pictures, and several hours of drone videos. This wouldn’t have been possible with out all my spare batteries! And everyone enjoys the videos. Next time you are here we will arrange a breakfast for you the desert. The camels love it too!

16 batteries! You are a rolling power station! But I have seen you in action and totally understand. The old motto, semper paratus, still rings true. Breakfast in the desert - even if shared with the hungry camels - sounds amazing. Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

It looks like a camel attack! At the end of the clip you had 10 of them swarming you with 2 more of an even dozen on the way. Can't say I recognize any of them, but they all look familiar. I like your technique of smacking them on the nose to keep them away. Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

Had everyone laughing. Trouble was I was stuck between them and the truck. The back was open, and some were stepping on my feet! My worry was someone might scare one, and it will jump. Giving me a nasty kick. It was not smacking, it was love pats! We had two cartons of carrots, they finished those. Then I gave them all the croissants we had left. One of my wife’s friends say these are my desert wives!

Thank God for my cat-like reflexes! Those camels are no more nor less than massive, hungry, one-humped, long-legged, dim-witted, shaggy, lovable, dangerous pigs! When I ran out of Saeed-supplied carrots and cukes, they wanted to chomp on my fingers and thumbs. I pretty much had to run away from them, while LMAO the whole time.
