I've made a few forend rests for shooting off bench but have never been 100% satisfied in getting one that gives the kind of lateral stability of the forend that I want. What have you guys made that you're happy with.

I have seen these but I have not used one: Some sort of base made out of chunks of 2x4 with a vertical piece made from plywood. The vertical piece had a V groove running top to almost bottom. The V was lined with a carpet scrap. The V will accommodate about any width forend and and secure it laterally. I got tired of fooling around with home made rests many years ago so broke down and bought a heavy cast iron BR style rest. It should last several life times. C.G.B.

I bought the same thing, cast iron, adjustable, that has a leather U shaped bag attached. I’ve had it 20 plus years and use it a lot. It is very effective and will out last me. NRA Patron member
