My old tritronics collar gave up the ghost and while I have a old dogtra that is functioning for the moment, my new lab is a bit of a handful.

I think I need a new e-collar for my not-so little buddy.

I mostly do waterfowl hunting, but also some upland and when the season closes, shoot on a game farm to force my fat rump to do some exercise.

Doing a quick look over on the web, there are a heck of a lot more choices now than when I brought the last one (and that was from the trainer) with some that can keep a GPS eye on the pup, to basically what I already have (but it will be new and not missing button pushes all the time- the old girl lab was pretty naughty at first but after a while we became used to each other so I stopped even using it, and she was unable to hunt for her last two years, so its surprising how things that used to work now don't...

I am not too worried about the cost, but would rather not pay $500+ if it gives no additional utility. All thoughts are welcome.

I bought this one from Garmin a few months ago. So far so good. I like Garmin products in general.

Tritronics just released their new 550 model. That is what I would suggest.

I have DD and have used Dogtra collars for years. VERY reliable and have all the power I have ever needed. I like the Pager...you can praise with it or handle without all the whistling and voice commands....make for quiet hunting in the field and in the blind.

You might be able to get the Tri Tronics fixed
by collar clinic. Depends if they can get the parts.
Id wait on the new 550. If they don't have the longer
contacts like the older Tri Tronics you will be thinking
the collar isn't working but the collar isn't making contact.
This has been a major problem with the new collars on the
market.
Collar Clinic might have a used one also. Or sometimes they
Will give you some cash for your old one to buy a new one.
You will find some good deals on the G3 Tri Tronics. But they
are no longer being made or repaired.

+ 1, Collar Clinic b/4 replacing. Word is that garmin has changed the former Tri-Tronics and not for the better.

Does the battery no longer hold a charge or something more serious?
The batteries are easily replaced and you can easily do that
Yourself. I have heard good things about Collar Clinic.
You should be able to order batteries off their website.
I did that a few years ago, even for older models.

Call the Collar Clinic 1-800-430-2010, tell them which collar you have and see what they say.
Good people to deal with.

I have used just about every e-collar to come down the pike and have found Sport Dog products to be the most user friendly. Durability is better than average too. I have a SD 3225 that is 5 years old now, a new record for a e-collar for me.
