Paw prints on my heart There are only two things in this world that give unconditional love and they are spelled with the same three letters and that is no accident. God and dog. Today was the first time in 34 years that I have awakened to a house without a Brittany in it to greet me. A strange feeling indeed and a far more lonely home it is. Scientists have just recently completed a study that claims having a dog in your home is beneficial for your children’s health. Wow they sure are on the ball we dog owners have known this for a long time but what they forgot and didn’t bother with in their study was all our dogs teach us about raising a child and about love and compassion. My now 23 year old daughter likes to tell everyone how when I would ground her and tell her it was for however long I would always give in and she would be free. She doesn’t understand that my dogs not only taught me that but Hunter who was around for most of her life reminded me almost constantly. Dogs forgive so totally and so easily and the only thing they want in exchange is love. Isn’t that all we all really want. I learned early on that I could never stay upset with any of my dogs for long just one look into their eyes and I would give in and they would remember and try so hard to do better. My daughter doesn’t realize it but the same thing happens with her. All it really takes is an expression of love and everything else seems so small and trivial. I will get another Brittany in a short while but for now I have to close my eyes and see my old pals and remember the hunts and all the incredible lessons they all taught me and patience and love are the two most prominent of thos lessons. Sorry for your loss. A new puppy always worked for me. Dogs don't need to live long. They are born with love in their heart. It takes us decades to learn what they are born with.

I feel your pain. I just lost my young dog (2 weeks and 2 days ago) to cancer at only 2 years 3 months of age. It has always seemed to me that you pay for all the good times with your dogs over their life with an equal amount of pain and anguish plus ten percent in the month after they pass. That is why dogs don't live that long. If they lived longer, the pain would kill us.

I am sorry for your loss. For me, it's a different feeling than anything else. After my last loss, I vowed to never have an empty house again. I hated going there. I truly believe , you can have a house, but it's not a home w/o a dog. Get another one. Not to replace the loss, I'll never forget the ones that have passed, but so that you can continue to receive the only unconditional love that exist---on earth. I'm going home, the greeting party of one is waiting on me.

Best wishes for an early end to grief. I trust the new one will help the process. It sure isn't fun, and I want to express my sympathy. Thank goodness I had two when I lost my first one or I don't know if I would have ever got another. Chuck

It's much easier to kill people that I know and love than put a dog down. Sorry for your loss and happy for the new arrival.
