https://vetoracle.com/resource...arteritis-factsheet/ Scary stuff ~ I watch my 18 month retriever go from a speed demon to unable to move in less than 24 hours. I rushed her to the vet that ran blood tests and except for a slight temperature and slightly raised white blood count they could not find anything wrong. The closest place that could pull spinal fluid was 5 hours away in Wisconsin. We explained to the vet that one of her litter mates came down with the same symptoms 7 months ago and Colorado State University found the problem. We started her on Prednisone and 6 hours later she was walking again as if she was 15 years old. By 24 hours , she was acting like herself again. We would rather not go through this ever again

What a miserable scare. So glad you were able to get her the treatment she desperately needed! I had not even heard of this in dogs before. There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t. – John Green, author

Thanks Bill. It’s been a week now since she came down with this. Prednisone has been reduced to 20mg per 12 hours and will stay on this for the next two months. So far so good.

Fingers crossed for her complete recovery, Chas. I don't know if you are like me, but I have loved the dogs in my life as much or more than most of the people. There is an intensity to it that is difficult to explain, especially to someone who has never had a dog in the family. Thanks everyone. She still sleeps a good deal but doesn’t appear to be in any pain. From what my vet tells me ,it will be a few months before she gets all of her zip back.
