Anybody have experience with French Brits? Anybody in SC PA or Williamsburg, Va have one that needs a hunting buddy for a day or so. I'd really like to hunt with one a little before I would buy one.
Lost my Lab a few years back. I love Labs, but my wife is not so keen on another pony in the house. I won't with be living on the farm, instead, a small lot with about 1/4 acre yard. I've had Brits before, but am not a field runner anymore, so am looking for a closer worker. I would like a close worker for quail, grouse, woodcock, pheasants and some small creek ducks.

Thanks

Why not another Brit?
Our Brits work close, under 25 yards if we tell them to.

If your hunting dog is fat, then you aren't getting enough exercise. Smiler

I haven't ruled out regular Brits. I read somewhere, a long time ago, with Brits, behind those soulful eyes, lies the heart of a wolf. I've had two in the past, one was a natural close worker and a gentle soul, the other was a ranger and a hard head. I liked them both. The French dogs are supposed to be a bit smaller, from what I've read, supposed to be naturally closer working, and it bit quieter around the house. Besides, I really like the looks of tricolors. I've enjoyed rambunctious dogs over the years, but I've slowed down some. I'm gonna be short on space and harmony at home is a big deal on this one.

Brittanies are easy to love. My experience is females work closer. However, it sounds like you need a Springer. Something good for pheasant, ducks, and works close. Maybe a trained dog would be a good idea.
I hope you find the right companion. I get tired of correcting dogs who leave the zip code.
