Stinky anal glands.

If your dog has anal gland problems, try giving it a tablespoon of cheap pumpkin pie filling daily. My neighbor had his lab to the vet and the vet recommended that over some high dollar prescription. I tried it with my stinky lab, a week later it is much better in here. Probably saved his life, at least it kept him from being a 'pound puppy'.

My wife has two Jack Russell's I have never had a dog that has had the anal gland problem like them. She must express them sometimes once a week. It is very easy to do it your self just make sure to do it outside it can shoot 3 to 4 feet.

The vet told us about pumpkin pie filling but it didn't work for them.

My lab is nasty- I let the Vet do it each spring when she gets her yearly physical. This is the only dog I have had with such an issue.

All you have to do is grab a handfull of toilet paper and cover their bunghole and squeeze a few times from different angles. You can often feel it coming out like when you pop a zit.

My Rhodesian Ridgeback rescue has no tail...not sure if that is the reason but his anal glands were leaking regularly. Tried many things, he is much better now since we changed his food to a lamb based formula with NO poultry ingredients. Also we feed him a fiber supplement biscuit that is easy to make, to add bulk to the stool thus emptying the glands naturally.

Biscuit recipe

Mix 3 cups oat bran with 10 ounces canned pumpkin, 2 eggs, 1/4 cup cooking oil, 1 teaspoon cinnamon and one teaspoon salt. Spread this out on an oiled baking sheet, cut into 2 inch squares. Bake 35 minutes at 350 degrees. I feed 2 of these to a 40 pound dog in the morning and evening, with their regular meal.

Good luck!

As crf said you need to add bulk and firmness to their stools. We give our dogs raw mutton flap bones (sheep rib cage) daily for their teeth and to stop any problems with anal glands. With all the dogs in our kennels banks we see very few cases of impacted anal glands.

A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. I said "How can you tell them apart?" He said "Her brother's got a moustache!"
